The goals of the course are to prepare pediatric dentists to diagnose, evaluate, treatment plan, and treat or refer the oral diseases and conditions of children and adolescents. This course will involve the discussion of cases that presented to oral pathology services at both the University of California San Francisco and the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry.

  • Describe the etiology, methods of prevention and treatment of oral pathologic conditions in children and adolescents
  • Understand the common conditions that affect the oral and maxillofacial region in children, adolescents and young adults and know the treatment options for these conditions
  • Become familiar with less than common conditions that affect the oral and maxillofacial region in children, adolescents and young adults, and to know how to treat or refer for definitive care

Dr. Darren Cox graduated from the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in 1990 and the Universty of Pittsburg School of Business in 2004. Dr. Cox was a assistant professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at the university of Pittsburg school of Dentistry from 2000 to 2005 and was also teaching the same subject at UCSF Medical Center 2005 to 2011. Dr. Cox is currently an Associate Professor of Pathology and Medicine at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry.
