Dr. Davis will discuss methods to screen or identify a child with potential risk factors for developmental delay and autism and discuss when it is appropriate to seek early intervention. Growing research, including longitudinal data released in 2017, shows that children with developmental delay or autism who begin therapy early have much better outcomes over time. These children learn to communicate better, have milder overall symptoms, and have an improved opportunity to thrive.

Through didactics, case presentations, and audience participation, this session will ensure its participants:

  1. Recognize common patterns of developmental delay
  2. Recognize common symptoms of autism in children under 3 years old
  3. Become familiar with outcomes of prematurity
  4. Learn warning signs to “anticipate” behavioral problems
  5. Consider ways to adapt and improve office visits for children with developmental disabilities
