The significance of the consequences of early childhood caries (ECC) is gaining the acknowledgment of professional organizations, child advocacy groups and policymakers. Despite improvements in many oral health indicators over the last decades, ECC in particular has increased among vulnerable pediatric populations in the US and beyond. Seeing children at a young age can have positive effects over a lifetime. This presentation will provide a comprehensive overview of infant oral health and the effects on subsequent use, costs and oral health status.

Dr. Jessica Lee is the Demeritt Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina. She is on the faculty of both the Departments of Pediatric Dentistry in the School of Dentistry and Health Policy and Management in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also serves as the Director of the School of Dentistry s Program Director of the Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program. Dr Lee received her MPH and DDS degrees from Columbia University and her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and PhD in Health Policy and Management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is board certified Pediatric Dentist and an active member of the medical staff at UNC Hospitals and practices in the Dental Faculty Practice in the School of Dentistry. . She is involved in teaching, clinical practice and research and maintains several research grants.
