Description
An excellent presentation given in conjunction with Dr. David Rothman’s program that offers the historical events that have shaped society and subsequently, family structure. Will discuss how parenting styles can influence child behavior and draw from contemporary parenting systems to develop relevant models for communication with the contemporary child patient and his/her family.

Dr. Rothman and Dr. Law lectures will help attendees to:

- Describe various parenting styles
- Apply parenting systems to pediatric behavior guidance

Instructor Information:
Dr. Clarice Law is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Sections of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics in the Division of Growth and Development, UCLA School of Dentistry. Dr Law received her DMD from Harvard School of Dental Medicine and completed specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics at UCLA School of Dentistry. She teaches both Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics to dental students and residents and is the Chair of the Growth, Development, and Aging curriculum track, which focuses on teaching biopsychosocial changes in individuals throughout the stages of life. As the daughter of a psychologist, she has always been interested in human behavior and has made it a focus of scholarly activity. She has authored two review articles on behavior guidance for the CDA Journal and thought she was getting quite proficient in non-pharmacological behavior guidance until her own children were born. This presentation brings together Dr Law s research interests in the influence of society and parenting style on oral health care with her desperate attempts to maintain peace at home.

Completion of these courses does not constitute authorization for the attendee to perform any services that he or she is not legally authorized to perform based on his or her license or permit type.
