The Ankyloglossia series comprises three webinars, each spanning 1.5 hours. Each session will encompass a 60-minute presentation by the expert speaker(s), followed by 30 minutes of interactive questions and discussions.

This series, consisting of three 1.5-hour webinars, aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of ankyloglossia. With contributions from esteemed experts in pediatric dentistry, pediatrics, and lactation consulting, this course will empower participants to approach ankyloglossia consultation, evaluation, referral and treatment with confidence and expertise.

Webinar 3 Title: Session 3: Tongue-Tie Update: How Oral Restrictions Impact Feeding, Speech, and Sleep Across the Lifespan

Learning Objectives:

  • Conduct a thorough exam on a baby, child, or adolescent; classify the degree of tongue or lip restriction; and screen for common symptoms related to these conditions.
  • Know if the attendee wishes to treat these patients in the office as part of a multidisciplinary team or refer them for care by a trained provider.
  • List the steps involved in assessing, diagnosing, referring to other specialists, and treating when indicated children with tongue restrictions.

The California Society of Pediatric Dentistry (CSPD) is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider Approved by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education.

ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. Concerns or complaints about a CE provider may be directed to CSPD at (916) 231-2142 or to ADA CERP at www.ada.org/cerp

Credit is awarded on an hour-for-hour basis. Each attendee should claim only those hours of credit that he or she was in actual attendance of the educational activity. Participants should retain course certificate of completion for their records.

Original Continuing Education Certificates are subject to Dental Board of California audit and should be retained by the licentiate for a period of six years. Completion of these courses does not constitute authorization for the attendee to perform any services that he or she is not legally authorized to perform based on his or her license or permit type. Instructor Info:

Dr. Richard Baxter is a board-certified pediatric dentist, Fellow of the AAPD, and Diplomate of the American Board of Laser Surgery. He is an internationally-recognized speaker on tongue-ties, instructor of the acclaimed online course Tongue-Tied Academy, and lead author of the bestselling book Tongue-Tied: How a Tiny String Under the Tongue Impacts Nursing, Speech, Feeding, and More. He is passionate about educating parents and healthcare providers about the effects a tongue-tie can have throughout the lifespan. He lives in Birmingham, AL with his wife, Tara, and their three girls, Hannah, Noelle, and Molly. He is the founder of the Alabama Tongue-Tie Center where he uses the CO2 laser to release oral restrictions. He had a tongue-tie himself, and all of his girls were treated as infants, so this field is a personal one. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, running, and outdoor activities. He serves in Kids Ministry as a 4th grade Faith Trainer at the Church at Brook Hills and participates in global missions projects around the world.
