Dental care-related fear and anxiety is common and frequently develops in childhood and adolescence. This fear and anxiety is distressing for patients and their caregivers, and it represents a major challenge for dental providers. Further, over the long-term, this fear and anxiety leads to a range of negative oral, systemic, and emotional health outcomes. This course will provide an overview of the epidemiology, etiology, and consequences of dental care-related fear and anxiety as well as key conceptual considerations. The course will also introduce learners to evidence-based approaches for assessing and managing dental care-related fear and anxiety in pediatric dentistry, spanning basic and advanced techniques.
