This course will unpack what it takes to plan treatment with a recommended care modality (nitrous, sedation, or general anesthesia). The course will delve into the basics of restorative from composites and SSCs to esthetic crowns, restoring traumatized permanent incisors, microdontic lateral build-ups, and artistically recreating enamel opacity variations. The course will also solidify a systematic approach to reviewing medical history, medications, treatment plan presentation tools, scheduling, local anesthesia, and treatment sequencing at each appointment. Listeners will streamline bur selection and master isolation tips to set patients, parents, and providers up for happy visits and predictable clinical outcomes. The lecture will provide a decision tree on pediatric dental appliances and their role in comprehensive restorative care with orthodontic referrals. There will be a review focused on a multi-specialty approach to complex treatment plans. The lecture will conclude with best graduation practices for continued restorative success when it is time to matriculate our patients to a general practice.

The California Society of Pediatric Dentistry (CSPD) is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider Approved by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education.

ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. Concerns or complaints about a CE provider may be directed to CSPD at (916) 231-2142 or to ADA CERP at www.ada.org/cerp

Credit is awarded on an hour-for-hour basis. Each attendee should claim only those hours of credit that he or she was in actual attendance of the educational activity. Participants should retain course certificate of completion for their records.

Original Continuing Education Certificates are subject to Dental Board of California audit and should be retained by the licentiate for a period of six years. Completion of these courses does not constitute authorization for the attendee to perform any services that he or she is not legally authorized to perform based on his or her license or permit type. This course meets the Dental Board of California’s requirements for above designated units of continuing education.

Instructor Info:

Dr. E. LaRee Johnson graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee, College of Dentistry. She completed a 3-year pediatric dentistry residency and received a Master of Science degree at the University of North Carolina. Dr. Johnson has a Certificate in Leadership from Northwestern University, Kellogg School of Management Leadership Institute (Cohort V), and holds an adjunct faculty appointment at the University of North Carolina and East Carolina University. She is a fellow of the International College of Dentists, American College of Dentists, and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. She has served as the president of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and is the current dental director for Raleigh Children’s Surgery Center. Dr. Johnson serves as a sedation site and provider evaluator for sedation permits for the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners. Being a wife and a mother of college-aged children and a yellow lab brings Dr. Johnson her greatest joy. Her family hobbies include anything outside, travel, CrossFit, and endurance sports. Dr. Johnson and her husband completed 3 Ironman distance triathlons, the Umstead 100 Mile Endurance Run, a marathon in all 50 US states, and competed in the CrossFit Open
