This lecture reviews common pediatric medical conditions and medical emergencies that may occur. Sedation implications for these conditions will be discussed along with strategies to improve outcomes. An algorithm for airway emergencies will be presented to ensure that pediatric dentists gain competence in managing the most serious complications when providing oral sedation.

Instructor Info:

Dr. Steven Ganzberg is a Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology at the UCLA School of Dentistry, is a dentist anesthesiologist with over 25 years of experience in pain management. Dr. Ganzberg graduated from M.I.T. in 1977 and the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1981. He completed his pain management training at New York University and his anesthesiology training and Master’s degree at O.S.U. Currently, he is Director of Anesthesiology for the Century City Outpatient Surgery Center, a Joint Commission accredited surgery center focusing on dentoalveolar, maxillofacial and facial plastic surgery.

Credit is awarded on an hour-for-hour basis. Each attendee should claim only those hours of credit that he or she was in actual attendance of the educational activity. Participants should retain this document for their records.

Original Continuing education certificates are subject to Dental Board of California audit and should be retained by the licentiate for a period of six years. Completion of these courses does not constitute authorization for the attendee to perform any services that he or she is not legally authorized to perform based on his or her license or permit type. This course meets the Dental board of California’s requirements for above designated units of continuing education.
