Course Description:
This course examines many of the common concerns in communication in a pediatric dental office with examples, exercises and humor.
Key communication skills will be discussed, demonstrated, and developed with workshops. Techniques using verbal and non-verbal communications will be presented. Many times, these same techniques can be utilized to change the tones or attitudes in a potential communication conflict situation so that it does not escalate into a “fire” causing a very negative situation in your practice.
Methods to assess and implement correct communication procedures as part of a risk management plan will be presented. Utilizing these methods can minimize malpractice claims due to communication conflicts and miscommunications.

Instructor Info:

Rhea M. Haugseth, DMD maintained a private practice in Marietta, GA from 1982- 2017. She attended the University of Louisville Dental School and completed her pediatric residency at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital / Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. She is proud to be a Fellow the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the Academy of Dentistry International – National Honorary Organizations for Dentists that only less than 5% of dentists belong.
 
Dr. Haugseth is a Past President of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentists, and the Georgia Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Haugseth has been a National Spokesperson for the AAPD since 1989 and has been frequently interviewed for radio, print, and national television. Dr. Haugseth has been a member of numerous councils and committees in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
 
Dr. Haugseth served on the American Society of Forensic Odontology Board of Directors 2001-2004. She is a Fellow and member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, and an active member of the National DMORT Mass Disaster Team serving Region IV as a forensic dentist (odontologist).
 
Dr. Haugseth is also a member of the ADA, GDA, Northwestern District Dental Society, and the Southwestern Society of Pediatric Dentistry.
 
Dr. Haugseth is the Founder and Director of the Atlanta Pediatric Dental Assistant School in Atlanta Georgia. She is also the Founder and Director of the Pediatric Dental Team Association. She is committed to the pediatric dental team members and continues to develop ways to enhance their knowledge and skills both in and out of the dental office.

CE Policy:

The California Society of Pediatric Dentistry (CSPD) is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider Approved by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education.

ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. Concerns or complaints about a CE provider may be directed to CSPD at (916) 231-2142 or to ADA CERP at www.ada.org/cerp

Credit is awarded on an hour-for-hour basis. Each attendee should claim only those hours of credit that he or she was in actual attendance of the educational activity. Participants should retain course certificate of completion for their records.

Original Continuing Education Certificates are subject to Dental Board of California audit and should be retained by the licentiate for a period of six years. Completion of these courses does not constitute authorization for the attendee to perform any services that he or she is not legally authorized to perform based on his or her license or permit type. This course meets the Dental Board of California’s requirements for above designated units of continuing education.
