This course aims to take you beyond the daily management of dental caries and caries risk assessment and focus on two of the other main diseases we encounter as pediatric dentists: Acid erosion (GERD) and periodontal disease. Dr. Keels discusses management strategies for dental acid erosion along with presenting an easy chairside documentation process. The viewer will learn to distinguish between the role of dietary acids and gastroesophageal reflux in the erosion of tooth structure. She will also review the diagnosis and treatment regimens for pediatric periodontal disease.

Instructor Info:

Dr. Martha Ann Keels received her dental degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She was the recipient of the NHS Dentist-Scientist Award, which funded her specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry and a PhD in Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina. She is board certified in pediatric dentistry and has served on the board’s examination committee since 2008.

She is an adjunct Associate Professor in Pediatrics at Duke University School of Medicine and an adjunct Associate Professor in pediatric Dentistry at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry. She has a private practice in Durham, NC.
