Course Description:
This lecture will discuss the importance of safety habits and office processes that yield predictable sedation outcomes. Dr. Nelson will present a case of a pediatric sedation death and discuss processes that clinicians can use to avoid such tragic events. He will cover appropriate case selection, sedation medications, controlling the operative field, monitoring, and emergency response.

Instructor Info:
Travis Nelson, DDS, MSD, MPH is a Clinical Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Washington. Dr. Nelson received his DDS from Loma Linda University, subsequently completed a residency in Pediatric Dentistry and a Master of Public Health degree at the University of Washington and is a board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He has authored numerous published articles and has lectured both nationally and internationally on a variety of topics. His clinical and research interests include providing dental care for children with special needs, pediatric restorative dentistry, and procedural sedation.
